Sheriff's Office - Charleston County, South Carolina
In case of an Emergency dial 911
Sgt. M. Ringley
All of the deputies assigned to the Community Services/D.A.R.E. section of the Sheriff's Office are certified (D.A.R.E.) Drug Abuse Resistance Education instructors. Deputies working in this unit work many of the Charleston County Schools throughout the year teaching D.A.R.E. programs mainly to fifth grade students. The program has been very successful since its inception and is expected to expand to include high school students in the near future.
Working with community members in Charleston County to set up crime watch programs is a big part of the job done by deputies in our Community Services Unit. They attend meetings, help setup block captains, pass out related literature and schedule instructors who speak on a wide range of topics at different meetings. These guest instructors teach the groups such things as: home safety, home security techniques, and other related subjects that the groups request to learn about. These deputies setup and run summer camps, participate in parades and other civic events in our community. They also assist business owners with crime prevention surveys, and perform a wide variety of other functions to make our community a safer place to live.
