The Human Resources Office is responsible for the recruitment and selection of personnel for the law enforcement and corrections components of the Sheriff's Office. The office also maintains the personnel records of all employees. It prepares and disseminates the payroll for employees of the Sheriff's Office and handles insurance related questions and problems. The following is a list of requirements for employment as a deputy sheriff or detention officer:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
21 Years of Age
Valid SC Drivers License
High School Diploma or GED
No Convictions of ANY CRIME OTHER THAN MINOR TRAFFIC OFFENSES
 

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
A Written Examination
Physical Fitness Testing (Not currently required for Detention Officers or Certified Law Enforcement Officers)
Polygraph Testing
Psychological
Background Investigation - includes NCIC, Credit checks
Interview
Candidates who have fulfilled the pre-employment requirements must successfully complete the following:

Upon offer of employment, complete a Medical/Physical Examination including drug screening South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Training Program and a One Year Probationary Period
