The internal affairs department conducts all internal investigations for the purpose of providing the various findings to the appropriate chain-of-command. In addition to these responsibilities, the office conducts polygraph examinations for employment and investigative purposes, oversees and coordinates the response to litigation involving the Sheriff's Office or its employees, and makes referrals to the county's Employee Assistance program as needed. The agency compiles annual statistical summaries, based upon records of internal affairs investigations, which are made available to the public and agency employees through the agency Public Information Officer.
